Modular Kitchens: Indian vs. European

Hugely popular in the country, modular kitchens in Kochi, other southern states, and almost everywhere in the north and west side are extremely happy to be choosing these over the traditional kitchens. But the idea of such kitchens didn’t first originate in India. It is the high styled magazines, the home design websites, and the various kinds of literature available on ultra chic interior designing, that has prompted us into understanding the value of modular kitchens.

Of course, trying to downright copy something can never work. Especially if we consider the way of living, the way the apartments are designed, and other such factors, and compare the the Indian and European counterparts, we’d know that exact same kitchen designs won’t work. There’s a vast difference in the quality of materials used, the layout, and hence even the cost.

Therefore, we think it would be really interesting to know what exactly differentiates these two types of modular kitchens in various aspects. Interesting, as well as helpful for you, if you’re thinking about getting your home a stylish modular kitchen soon!

Take a look.

Indian style kitchens are rocking the popularity charts!

You can get your kitchen from an Indian dealer, or from a kitchen company that is headquartered outside of India, or even have one of the Indian companies design you a European-style modular kitchen. Anything is a possibility for you, but as far as popularity of modular kitchens goes in India, it is the Indian style that gets most visits and eventually more buys. People probably recognize more of the design aspects and architectural tidbits of the Indian style kitchens, compared to the European ones. It’s also about these kitchens being more in sync with the cooking conditions and the general vibe of an Indian home setup. Or, it could also be about the final price because as we’ll see further on, Indian style kitchens are rather inexpensive compared to the European style ones.

Which one’s a little difficult on the pocket?

The European style one. That’s the one which you’ll find typically more expensive. For example, if you go out to get modular kitchens in Kochi, Ahmedabad, or any other Indian city, you would get a typical Indian style for as low a price as Rs. 50, 000. You can then get better designs for about as high as Rs. 7-8 lakhs too. But the European style ones would take roughly double the amount, with priceging as high as Rs. 15-25 lakhs.

Europeans trump in quality

We say the European style kitchens are more than a tad bit expensive compared to the Indian ones. Why do you think that is? The major reason would be the quality of raw materials used. For example, the quality of the cabinets that are used in an Indian style kitchen is very different and of a much lower quality than the one used in an European one.

The size of the family decides the layout of the kitchen

Apart from the money and quality aspect, the overall layout is also different for both the kitchen types. Indian homes usually have the extended family members sharing the space as well. So, you’ll find more than one cook in almost every Indian house. The kitchens therefore need more floor space, and a vastly more counter space. The European kitchens are perfect for small families living in small apartments. Their kitchens have a small counter space, so that almost all tasks are centrally coordinated.

There are quite a lot of differences between these two major kitchen types available in the country. We say, the best option would going for a kitchen that is best custom-designed for you and your home. Take whatever you like in the Indian style kitchen, and see what you love about the European style ones. And then try to come up with a way to mix and match the best of both! Make your kitchen into your personal art project, and don’t feel pressured by the different types of kitchens. You don’t have to choose any of them; you would rather make your kitchen type and style! So, go for it! Design yourself a kitchen with the best of European and Indian style kitchen features!
